Khan Day 3 August 2, 2014

So I was up by 8:30 am but the long convention days and partying nights were taking their toll. Sufficed to say I was not moving so quick this morning. Benn and I decided that instead of hitting the convention floor by 9:00 am we would take our time and get some breakfast.

We went to the Sports Grill in the Rio and had a tasty breakfast. With a full belly I was now ready to face the chaos of convention Saturday.

I continued my pattern of hanging in the dealers room at the TrekRadio booth or wandering around looking for things to buy. I did stop by one panel around 3:00 pm but that was mostly because I was tired and needed a place to sit and rest a while. I don’t even remember what the panel was for. I was mostly just passing time as tonight’s after party was sure to be off the chain!

One cool thing that did happen on Saturday though was that I got the chance to listen to and take a picture with Lee Arenberg. At the time I knew him only as Grumpy/Leroy from ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Since my wife and I watch that together I knew she would get a kick out of the picture. I later learned that he also had a few roles on Star Trek the Next Generation and Enterprise.

As usual the vendor room wrapped at 7:00 and I rushed up to the room to get changed. I forgot that the night before I discovered my room key had been demagnetized and didn’t work. So I had to rush back downstairs to the front desk to the get the room key fixed.

Rushed back up to the room as I had to be back down by the valet entrance to Rio before 8:00. I made it there in time and caught up with my old crew from the U.S.S. Gene Roddenberry. We all boarded a party bus bound for Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas.

Hofbrauhaus is a German beer hall and restaurant. The restaurant is like a grand dining hall with wooden benches almost like church pews and long wooden tables. While I didn’t get many pictures of the place here are a few of the awesome ceiling.

German cuisine and craft beer served in liters. I had two of those. Now I was never good at metric to standard conversion, but that was a good amount of beer. (Yeah I know it’s like a 2 liter bottle of soda, but that just doesn’t sound as funny).

Besides their large beers Hofbrauhaus has a tradition there, that if you buy a shot you get to be paddled by the waitresses. This happened not once, or twice but five times to four people in our party.

After the paddling sessions there was a drinking contest. It was our own yeoman Molly vs. Bridal Party check it out.

After our dinner party we boarded a different party bus to take us back to the Rio. With the music blasting and the bus load of us singing a long we all had a great time. While rummaging through the bus we found a partially drunk jar of Apple moonshine, two non-alcoholic beers and a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses.

I had a drink of the moonshine mostly on a dare, but SpockVegas decided he was the logical choice to enjoy that beverage. I did take one of the beers and the Ray-bans.

We made it back to the Rio and as usual headed straight for the Masquerade bar. Then Joanie got a craving for french fries so we all headed up to the BK Whopper bar.

Junk food cravings satisfied we all headed back to the bar where we partied the night away. During the party I got a picture with the man himself Rod Roddenberry, (notice the party bus Ray-bans).

Sometime after the above picture was taken I was talking with some of the group. I like to think that I looked so cool with my shades on at night in a casino that the club guy from Voodoo lounge felt compelled to give me 2 passes. That guy isn’t here to argue so that’s how it’s gonna be. Anyway went up and checked out the lounge but quickly figured out it wasn’t my scene and headed back down to party with the rest of the Trek fans.

I must say that Khan Day 3 was the most fun that I have had at any Khan. I made a great new Star Trek family;  Joanie, Molly, Beth, Kaci, Paul, Ben, Stephen, Eric, Adrianne, Evan and Rex. I reunited with my crew; Crystal, Melody, Darnell, Chris, Dave, Marina. I had a fantastic time and I hope that I helped everyone else have a good time too. I can’t wait to see them all again next time.
